I am searching for a usable radiator shell to this car/p-u. The original was of aluminium, but is wrecked/nonrepairable (I believe). Would it be OK to use a black painted steel shell in stead? It's no joke when I ask: Anyone offering one for sale?

To my knowledge no one is making an aluminum shell for the 1925-26, nor for that matter a steel shell. I have not seen an aluminum shell for sale for maybe two years. During that same time I have been able to purchase just one steel shell that was usable. As the technical advisor for the 1925-26 it is advisable to use the steel truck shell and have it plated. As chrome plating was not available in 1925-26 that is another deduction for class judging, however we must make do with what we have on hand.

There' a bloke in Australia making replacement bottom sections for steel surrounds and they're reasonably priced and a perfect job. Have a look at www.jackson-s.com/olderaservicesChris

We had a guy who owns a specialty coatings shop give a talk at our Region meeting last month. He does ceramic coatings, powder coating and spray on high tech coatings. He showed a potmetal hood ornament (large bird from a '40 Chev) that was coated on only half of its surface to show the original (chrome) finish in comparison to the new coating. You could hardly tell that it was not chrome. The original side was very pitted. He used body filler (bondo) on the treated side and then sprayed. I believe it was a base coat with a very hard and durable clear coat on top. And no baking.
