did these old girls have firewall kickboards(no evidence of any ever having been installed---ie, no remnants of kickboard material and the fastners for the coil look undisturbed) also, what type of mat/carpet was used on the rear floorboards. nothing there now but cn't imagine being that way in 29. if it was originally rubber-matted, anyone know source for yardage? thanks, mike

No firewall insulating or finishing panel in 1929. They did have a carboard covering from the front door piller to the floor boards and to the firewall below the dashboard.
Rear floor covering is carpet, got mine as part of the upholstery kit from Hampton Coach.
Front mat is rubber and available as repro.

Mike,
Local upholstery material suppliers or shops should be able to get the cardboard. That is where we typically get it. It comes in black which is what typically was used. The carpet was square weave which is what you can get from Hampton or other suppliers. If you can buy material from Model A suppliers it typically is the same and cheaper. If you buy yard goods you will need to have local shop add edge binding.

Absolutely correct! But again, when we refer to "kick panels" we call the material "cardboard" over here. wink laugh laugh laugh

would the 31 chevy kick board samll pieces serve as a template for the 29 chvy? i just installed them in the 31 and they'd be easy to copy.cars not sittting next to one another so i'd like to know if they are identical before i go copy the 31's lower kickboard panels.mike

You can probably order the 1929 kick panels already made up from Hampton Coach. laugh laugh laugh

dawg: what i'm referring to aren't what i call kick panels. kick panels are installed perpedicular to the road and would be in close proximity to ones ankles. what i'm referring to would probably be best referred to as the toe panels. the two smallpieces that lay on the floorboards about where your toes rest. when i got the firewall kickboard for the 31 cabriolet from the filling station, it came in three sepearate pices, a large one that runs from upper inner firewall to about where the steering col goes thru the floorpan. the two smaller pieces fold under the large piece and then head back towards the horizontal portion of the floorboards. i'm not sure they ever were installed on the 29's but it kinda looks funny where i'd think they'd go as the rubber floor mat doesn't go up above the steering col. boy, i'm confused just re-reading this post. thanks, mike

The rubber pieces that you are talking about were not used in 1929 or in 1930 because no firewall insulation mat was used. 1931 was the first year for the firewall insulation mat and the two rubber pieces that you are referring too. By the way, those pieces are called "dash panel lower mats", and there is a left and a right. laugh laugh laugh
