I have converted my 1928 Chevy Capitol 1 Ton truck to 12 volts and all runs fine. I recently came across a nice original amp guage and would like to install it. Will the amp guage, having been designed for a 6 volt system, function properly or will it burn out because I'm running a 12 volt system now? Thanks, Dan.

Going to 12 volts won't hurt the ammeter,as long as you set the charging current by moving the 3rd brush as you would on the old 6 volt system.I've had my '28 truck on 12 volts since 1984,and no problems with the original ammeter.
