I put new rubber bumpers on my door checklink rods and noticed two rivets dangling in the recessed pocket where the checklink swivel folds into when closing the door. It looks like it may have had a seal riveted in? I had the car redi-stripped a long time ago so maybe it was eaten away? I can't find anything in the parts book...

If it's like my 38 there is a rubber bumper on the door, held in place with two nails/rivets and one on the rod itself. The replacement rubber kits come with both pieces.

Assuming you have the same check link as a 38 (parts manual says you do) you use the first and third one. I don't know what the others are for. Use a little locktite on the threads to prevent movement of the nut/washer after adjusted. The thin one is fixed to the inside of the door and the thick one is on the link with the washer/nut.

Thanks, Mike The first connects to the inside of the door itself using the two nails/rivets to hold it in place. The third one connects to the rod & bumps against the first one when the door opens all the way.

The nails are hardened short fat nails with a swirl pattern to them. They can be pulled out but it is easier to just cut the old rubber off, put some soap on the new rubber, and work it onto the old nails.
