Do you have a ignition lock without key or a broken one ?

I have made some replacement ignition lock cylinders w/ keys for 27-28 cars.
$80.00 - postage inclusive.

Wow,
That is an item that many of us have given up on long ago. Finding and original die-cast switch that works in very difficult. Then there is always the fear that once the column is locked the cylinder will fail and the car will not be drivable. These cylinders will restore the original anti-theft device.

When I restore the steering unit I remove the tang that works with the steering lock. If not familiar with the locking device, it locks the steering shaft and you can't steer the car. The lock system does not lock the ignition. Therefore the key is for decoration only.

The original lock had two models and required two keys (one for each lock).

The lock system lock the ignition.

Pictures # 1 show the lock in lock posision.
The small pin are lock in a slot in the switch unit and you can not move the long hendle.

Pictures # 2 show the lock in unlock posision.
The bolt are moved to the right, the steering lock are not engages and the small pin are in a slot in the switch unit where it can move and operate the switch ignition unit.

I do not trust the steering lock so I have removed the lock pin in my cars. The key only operate the ignition.

Therefore the key are NOT for decoration. It's for ignition

The price are in US $

Bluezone, you are right on. Most of the ignition switches have been removed when broken and replaced by an auxiliary switch. If the original switch is still in place, and operating, then it would operate as you described. Sorry for the confusion.

Hi Ritchi
Yes. The screw replacing the old roll pin that hold the barrel. It's easy to get the new barrel in correct posision when you have a screw.

I recommend to remove the steering lock pin for 100% safe driving. Only use the ignition lock.

I will send you a PM

Some say "Street is neat". I prefer "1928 is great"

I have documented my 45 years with a 1928 Chev Tourer, from 1973 to 2018, and regulary add other items that I hope are of interest to others. Your comments are most welcome. The story of the Red Chev can be viewed at http://my28chev.blogspot.com/

Hi Ray
OK. My be I have wrong.
I am sure your car are safty to drive with the steering lock plunger in place.
In my case, with new lock cylinder/key I do not need more safty than the ignition lock give me.

I'll be replacing the cylinder this spring, I will keep your info until then.

Are you aware of any switches, broken OK, got a good picture of one this week but it didn't show the guts, I want to see if I can rebuild one or come up with a reproduction one that I can show in G&D for those that want it on their car. I'ed be willing to buy one if it has all the parts to perform a forensic rebuild.

Finally I have the locking mechanism but it has a bent rod, does anyone have an extra steering wheel lock?

Thanks ron
