Do you know if the 1929, which would be 6 cyl., used the same transmission as the 1928 LP?
My 1928 Capital LP transmission has casting number 590328 on it. Also, next to the bow tie, it has a 1 and below it has F 13 8. I assume this stands for June 13, 1928. My old 1928 LO parts truck also has casting number 590328, but has a 2 next to the bow tie and L 9 9 below. I guess this makes it a December 9, 1929 transmission? I was told the LP had a beefed up transmission from that of the LO. The LO was extended by 2 feet sometime in its life and maybe they upgraded the transmission? The two transmissions look identical in every way.

The casting date of L 9 9 would indicate that the transmission is probably a 1930 since the transmission was made in December of 1929 which was already well into the 1930 production year.

The main differences between the 1928 LP 4 spd gearbox, and the 1929 LQ 4 spd gearbox, are the length of the clutch input shaft
(the LP input shaft is slightly shorter than the LQ),and the speedometer drive cable connects to the rear of the gearbox on the PTO cover side of the LP,and the opposite on the LQ.
The gear ratios are the same LP/LQ,uni joint & housing. The optional 4 spd for the 1928 LO has a lot of differences.

I just thought of something, but don't know if it applies back then , but some castings from later years have a code that tells which work shift cast the part. Could it be the 1 and the 2 signify the first and second shifts? Those codes would only apply to the casting foundry and not the assembly or machining lines. I will look at the LP trans I have in the barn and post what I find on it.
