I have the firewall stripped down for repainting. Were the original 1/4-20 bolts plated or black? And, are they supposed to be sticking out (threads and nuts) into the engine compartment about 1/2" rather than turned around into the inside? I would tend to favor the inside for asthetics.

Don't know about the '33 but the earlier models had the head of the screws on the bracket or clip and nuts/washers on the opposite side of the firewall. That meant that most had the nuts/washers on the engine side.

Most of the nuts and washers were on the engine side on my 1934 also. From the black and whitefactory pictures the nuts/bolts look "dark".
