I do not intend to take the body off of the frame on my '49 chev 4 dr. I would like to clean and paint the frame and was wondering if any one did it this way and if the results were satisfactory? The motor is out so the front won't be a problem. I plan on using rustolemem. Thanks. I could also use a friends hoist in his garage if neccessary.

Steam cleaning and pressure washing seem to work good on the frame with the body in place. Things do get pretty clean with those two methods. The last time I used Rustoleum, it was on a wheelbarrow and it didn't even work well for that. Now I won't use that stuff on anything.

Hey dodgone it if you hadn't used your tail to apply the rustoleum it might have done better. I have used POR 15 over the last several years and been satisfied with it. I mostly bead blast the parts (which they tell you on the can not to do) an the only problem(s) if you want to take it off and excessive sunlight. For frames, underhood and interior parts it holds up well.

The reason I asked was because I did a search on "frame" and "paint" and not too much luck. Afer I posted and got a reply I hit "rustoleum" and got a whole lot of information. Will still take more advice if it comes. Thanks.

I have used Rustolium Satin Finish on frames with good results. The one they suggest for outdoor furniture. I don't like a high gloss on the frame.
