I was so excited that I forgot to ask a question! I have a bent rocker arm. It is bent "straight" so I run out of adjustment. Has anyone ever had experience putting some bend in one? Any suggestions? I was thinking I better get another before I try anything. I am just running that valve with more clearance than I should.

If the rocker arm is bent "straight" replace it. The 4 banger rockers will break. It is not too common but also not unheard of either. Sorta like axles. Not many break even if everyone tells you they will break.

If the rocker arm to 1929 are the same (which I believe) as to 31, I could send you a couple for used for replacement.

May be it is possible to weld some metal and adjust it thereafter to get the right height for the valev lifting?

I never thought of trying to building it up and regrinding the face. I might have to try that.

I have found almost as many bent ones as straight. Most times the bent ones have the lock nut on the bottom of the rocker to get more adjustment. Probably comes from overreving the engine, just one of the many weak points caused by cheap material. Chevy sold more cars in the late twenties than brand F, but there are 30 or more F's surviving now for every Chevy of the same year. F's design was worse in some ways than Chevy, but they used much better material, and heat treating.

I was thinking earlier if there was an application that used the same type of adjuster but had longer threads that could be used in place of the original?

Herb, that is a great idea of placing the locking nut on the bottom, don't know why I didn't see that! I'll have to look into that!

The rocker arm to valve opening ratio for the '28's is 1.5:1,whereas the ratio for the '29's is 1.48:1.Then you have the added problems of the difference in shaft size,as well as the fact that the end of the '29/'30/'31 adjusting screw is not the same as the '28's.Points to think about.
