Knowing nothing about this RJH08-136S, Is it normal to have to choke it once the engine is warmed up. :confused: :confused:

For starting a warm engine you might have to choke it for about 2 seconds but you should not have to use the choke when the engine is warm and running.


If you have old Chevrolets, other old Chevrolets will find out where you live.

As d2d2 stated, you don't have to choke the carb. when the engine is warm. Sounds like you have a possible internal problem with your carburetor. :( :( :(

D2d2,JYD, Thanks for the reply, this thing has been driving me nuts. This car came with a zenith universal Carburetor on it and it never ran well and also it sounded like a wind tunnel. In the box of spare parts I found the original Carb,I installed it and it was like a new car. After driving it for a while it started to race and the idle was erratic, could not set the mixture and it had to be choked to start.

Here is what I found today, removed the Carb and found that one of the screws holding the throttle plate went South..maybe North must of gone through the engine...nowhere to be seen. Now what to do?? Checked the threaded hole and came up with a 4-36 thread,now I know Im out of luck, and in deep Do Do,so I headed for Ace Hardware and found some 4-40 screws and tapped one hole, installed the screw with a lock washer and hope it will stay in place. Installed Carb,fired it up and it runs like a top, it even starts without the choke when its warm.

I'm assuming that if the throttle plate is not closed completely you can not set the mixture properly, maybe I'm all wet drink laugh

Sounds like ya got a winner there. By the way, the correct thread size for the throttle shaft on that carburetor is 3-48. laugh laugh laugh

JYD, I'm sure you are correct about the 3-48 thread size,but that is what it measured.Over the years I'm sure this Carb has been apart a few times and who knows what went on over time.I just hope my lock washers do the job. laugh laugh

Someone has apparently re-tapped the throttle shaft holes over the years because the original hole did have a 3-48 thread. On the lockwashers, I wouldn't use them. You should remove the lockwashers and use some green Loctite instead. wink :p laugh
