Does anyone know if there are modern wheel bearing seals that would fit a 1926 Touring. I need both front and rear seals and I know the NOS ones aren't that effective.

I'm not sure you can buy this seals locally. They do not have the seals with the right size. I think Gary have made them spesial construction to fit our old cars.

On the front wheel you can do a new seals yourself. Open the old retainer and make a new cork sealing from a 3 mm cork plate. It's only for holding grease inside and dust outside.
On the rear, Gary's seal are the best

Hi Arend,
I can't find any CR seal numbers that match up with the front hub seals,as they are a wierd sized seal.I came across the seal part no. in an old Australian FLA-SEAL catalogue, and it gave a number of A1097,which will probably mean nothing to any U.S. parts store.
The dimensions of the seal are as follows:

O.D. 2.970" diameter(75.45mm)

I.D. 1.797" diameter(45.65mm)

Width 0.250" (6.35mm)

If you can't locate the seals, you should be able to carefully pull the old seals apart, get some engineering felt, and make some new seal rings.

When looking for replacement seals don't ignore metrics. We have found some that are close enough to work well. The one that I remember is the propeller shaft seal next to the bushing for the '34-36 Masters. Seem to remember we also found a modern lip seal for both the front and rear wheel/axle seals. If I remember right we needed to adjust the backing a bit to stake the seals in place.

If you have a bearing company near you give them a try. The one near me in Terre Haute Indiana is awsome and have something like 36,000 different seals not to mention the bearings the have is a HUGE even bigger stock. They supply Industrial and mining equipment locally. And all of the local clued in restorers go there to get seals bearings and belts. Here is the phone number, 812-232-0276. The name of the company is "Coldwell" in Terre Haute. They don't have listings for applications, but if you give them numbers off bearings or seals or accurately measure them they can look them up that way or you can send them the parts and they will cross them to newer numbers. They supplied all 16 the bearings I needed for rebuilding a tranny, differential and rear end for a 1951 Farmall H tractor I rebuilt and even found a very hard to find bearing for the input shaft idler which was a Hyatt roller bearing which is no longer made in that size. The prices were very cheap and they carry some of the best bearings made in the world. The rear wheel axle ball bearing on that tractor for example is a big one about 5-6 inches in dia and it only cost $63ea compared to $129ea at Carquest and $395ea at Case IH. They said when I get the bearings out for my 24 Olds, just bring them in and they were sure they could supply the new bearings and cups to upgrade them to taper bearings if they didn't have them or couldn't get them in ball type. Some very old cars in the teens and earlier use different bearing sizes that may only fit that particular car, but they can get them very close and may just have to machine a little to get them to fit. They also have fan/drive belts for just about anything ever made from sewing machines to combines. I have a Woods L59 belly mower on an old 1970s Kubota, the mower belt is a strange size and usually only available from Woods for $120, they had one made and I had it in my hands in 2-3 days for about $27. Good Guys who know their stuff and sell their stuff at the right price!
