Restoring the Shock absorders, but what is the best oil and how much of it?

Hydraulic jack oil is best, and each one will take about 250ml. You fill them to the top of the filler screw when the shock absorber is sitting level (not tilted like the rear ones are when they're on the car). Fill to the top, then slowly cycle the piston to expel any trapped air, repeat.....until it will take no more.

Thank you. Was going to use a little thicker oil but this is just fine.

10W oil is the most viscous to be used in shocks. Jack oil is most easily found.

Did use motocycle fork oil and it did work as well...

Hi, you mean the shock absorbers do work a little on the car when in order. I was not so sure. In my old Austin they are made out of wood plates,but the chevrolet is a big progress. luv2

They surely do work if in good shape. Only are single acting so only damp in one direction. If you use too thick oil then they don't work too well and the fluid will not move fast enough. Same thing happens in real cold weather.
