Hi Everyone, great site here, I have my first question.

just purchased a 1928 tourer and the fan has spun off the end of the water pump. I dont know what you call it but the round bracket that presses onto the water pump shaft and holds on the fan has cracked and spun off the end. Does anyone know how I can get a new one of these, and how do you fit the new one....ie does it have to be heated or just tapped on with a hammer?

cheers Aussiechevy

Hi There and welcome to Chevy Chatter II. Glad that you can join us!

Are you are talking about the water pump pulley or the fan hub?

No doubt some of the 4-cylinder dudes that frequent this forum will be able to help you out with the part that you need.

Hi Junkyard Dog

No sorry mine has 2 parts. 1 is the pully itself and then the fan holder presses on after that....it is a seperate part from the pully

You have a few of possibilities. Advertise for one in the parts wanted forum or G&D or other hobby publications. Ask other '28 owners if they have an extra one. Have one made at a machine shop or an old retired machinist with a backyard shop. [Just make a disc with thickness where the bolt holes are, drill and tap a couple of holes and bore out the center hole. Or repair the one you have. I typically use loctite when I put the pumps back together.

This is most unusual. normally a blade cracks and it tosses a blade. I will send you a couple of contacts for people in Australia who understand 28 pumps well.

The twobladed and fourbladed fans are frequently for sale on eBay, but can be expensive there. You may try to contact chev4cyl@charter.net in USA. Gary normally has 1925-34 Fan, 4 Bladed for sale.

Nothing else destroyed, f.ex. the core when the fan parts fell off?

Mate, you should have taken Terry's advice. Your fanblade hub has cost you more than a brand new reconditioned water pump. Your best bet is to join the VVCAA (Aussie vintage Chev club), there's also a branch in WA.
That way you'll be able to find out anything you want re your Chev. Or send me a private post as I've owned 28 Chev's for nearly 40 years, currently owning a 2 door sedan (coach)and a tourer, and I should be able to help you
For more info go to the website
