Could anyone send me some pictures of what the Vacuum windshield wiper motor is supposed to look like? The one that was on my car does not look like it belongs with the car. What paint that is left on it looks like a Military green and there is a control knob on the unit itself in addition to the control knob inside the car. There also seems to be some none original looking mounting brackets for it. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! THANKS!!

My '27 (Australian assembled) has an electric wiper, which I assume was an after market accessory. I haven't seen a vacuum wiper for a '27 and didn't know they existed. Was this a factory option (perhaps in US only?), and where is the switch placed on the dash?

The 1925 and 1926 were equipped with a wiper on the closed cars only.

The 1927 was equipped with a wiper on all body styles.

The 1927 Cabriolet was equipped with a wiper.

The 1928, all models, were equipped with a wiper.

The control for the 1928 (N) was located on the left side of the dash oval. It was made to match the choke control which occupied the right side of the oval.

All wipers through 1928 were vacuum operated. There were specific wipers for each year except the 1926.

The vacuum wiper motor depends on which body style you have. The Cabriolet and Imperial Landau Sedan used one model, sedans and other closed another.

I have a sedan and the vacuum control is on the left side of the steering wheel. The control looks to be original, because of the way the vacuum tube is inset into the wood and run all the way to where the motor should be in a very professional manner.

KEN, I replied to your PM.

ANYONE, I could still use some pictures, if anyone could send me some or post them here to help determine if the one that I have is even somewhat close to what should be on a 1927 Chevy 4 door sedan, I would be most appreciative. Even if the one I have is close, I don't know if it works and will have to get a new blade at the very least.

THANKS!!!

Hello Murray

Here are 4 pictures of wiper used on -27 and 28 models.
Most probable the are others types, but this are types I have find in Norway on cars assambled in Kopenhagen,Denmark

This type was used on closed models, and monted outside the front window. Vacuum control on the instrument panel.

This type was used on open models, and monted inside the front window. Vacuum control on the vaccum motor.

In Australia, 99% of open cars used a hand wiper, ie. you swung it back and forth via a handle on the inside of the windscreen. Only closed cars had vacuum wipers, I'd hazard a guess that electric wipers were an after market accessory

28 chev rebuild
The electric wiper on your 28 would be an aftermarket replacement, all Aussie open cars had a hand wiper

Dear Bluezone,

The motor that you have in the last two pictures is the exact same model that is installed on my 28 1ton pickup. It's in about the same shape too.
