Does anyone know where you can get the screen that is used in the horns on a 1932 and other years? All my other horns have what looks like stainless screening.

At one time there was a company that advertised in Hemmings Motor News that sold the screen for the 1932 horns. Don't know if the company is still advertising or not since I dropped Hemmings years ago.

Also go here: http://www.directmetals.com/

And to find more screen go to Google and type in "Stainless Steel Screen"

As I mentioned, the screen was being reproduced, but since I no longer get Hemmings I don't know if the screen is still being reproduced or not.

Try this site....it might help you:

Do a Chatter search with the term "horn", etc and you will find a lot of strings of information about '32 horns.

There was several posts here on innies and outies for the '32 horn screens. I have one of each on mine and would be more than happy to swap one of them for the opposite one if someone out there has the same problem. Now my horns are in the best of shape including chrome that is for all intents and purposes flawless and would expect the same quality in return.

Let me know.

How did you make out with your massive oil leak?

Hi JYD,
Now that is a question I've been wanting to ask.
Did 1932 use a "seamed" horn, smooth or both?
Thanks!

Now I will have to take a look to be sure, but I think both of mine are seamed. Not sure though, will check this evening and post a reply here.

Massive oil leak is all but gone, it leaks every now and then but not much at all. It seems to get less and less the more I drive it. Maybe I should check the oil level. togo togo togo

The innie horn is seamed and the outie horn is smooth. I would like to have a matching pair of smooth outie horns, willing to swap one innie for one outie.

I was kidding about the not checking the oil. The level is fine. I just pulled the engine and did a really good job of making sure that all was as it should be. I made sure that the rear main bearing cap had a thin coat of gasket sealer under it before putting it back together. I also made sure that the gasket was well sealed where the side gasket and bearing gasket comes together. Much easier to do with the engine out of the car.

Jyd! I have dual horns on my 31 (pancake delco`s)and was told at the Middle West Meet last month that behind the cover it should be painted Olive Drab. Is this correct? Got my Judging sheets back last week and the old gal scored 982. I was very pleased, since this was the first time it has ever been judged. :) :) :)

Regarding the 1931 horn cover, I would check with Chipper Dipper on that one since I don't have any literature in my collection that gives that specific information. However, I have seen pancake horns at swap meets that were painted both black and Olive Drab on the back of the cover.

On the coil, good luck! Finding 1929-32 original coils is a very hard process, and most of the used ones that you find are worthless. As a matter of fact, many dudes are looking for the correct coil for 1929-32. You might check with "Chevyb" on this site....he might have one. laugh laugh laugh

Try taking off the back and gently pushing out the inny screen with a piece of wood. It may work. (an old wooden spoon works well).

You can try, but the entire screen will probably pop out of the trumpet. :( :( :(

Not only will it probably not work the innie horn has a seamed trumpet while the outie horn has a smooth trumpet. Also the backs of the horns are different.

I would still like to swap an innie seamed horn for a smooth outie horn. The chrome on mine are perfect.
