The old data plate is unreadable, so need a new one made. Question is: In the "Car Number" is there one, two, or any spaces, or a dash, between the "C" and the next number? For example: 6AC 40487.

No dashes were used, and the layout of your example is correct.

:) wink

Your example decodes to: 6 = Oakland CA, AC = 1929 and 40487 = the assembly sequence number.

Ray or Skip, Do you have a number listing of the different plants around the country? Could one of you two decipher my manufacturer tag as well? It is 21AC66652 The car came from Brookings, South Dakota so I would assume 21 is Kansas City MO There are some other numbers besides the body style on the fire wall but the car is up at another place so I can not go look at it right now. Thanks for your help.

In 1929 there were only 9 assembly plants:

8 Atlanta, Georgia
12 Buffalo, New York
1 Flint, Michigan
21 Janesville, Wisconsin
5 Kansas City, Missouri
9 Norwood, Ohio
6 Oakland, California
2 Tarrytown, New York
3 St. Louis, Missouri

Your serial number indicates that your car was built in Janesville, Wisconsin, not Kansas City, Missouri. Your serial number breaks down as follows:

21 = The factory number, which would be Janesville, Wisconsin.

AC = The series, which is 1929

66652 = The number of the run. All serial numbers started at 1,000 so your car would be the 65,652nd car made in the Janesville factory in 1929.

I have an "International" data plate. It is 3.5" long by 1 7/8" wide. It has the Chevrolet logo boldly displayed at the top. Then it says: Manufactured by Chevrolet Motor Company. Next to Model it says: International. And the bottom line has Car Number and it is stamped 6074. Does anyone need it for a few bucks?

A NORS correct data ID plate is easy to order from a guy in Argentina on eBay. He is offering the item continously these days.
