I am a long-time VCCA member from Florida but this is my first post. I have owned my '31 Coach since the seventies and have never been able to find the vehicle serial number. My understanding is that it is on a small metal plate that is tacked to the right door sill. I have looked there but never found anything. Can anyone tell me where exactly on the sill it should be? At the "A" or "B" pillar? Foreward or aft? I expect my serial number plate is just missing but would like to be sure. Is there any other place on the vehicle where the serial number is recorded or any way to determine what it is from the engine, job number or other identifier? Thanks for the help!

Yes, it appears that your car serial number plate is missing. It was located on the passenger side main sill, facing the door, just a few inches in front of the front seat. There are no other places on the car were the car serial number was recorded. :)

If you got a title with your car, it should have the number that was used to register it. That might have the serial number or MVD may have titled it by the engine number which would be by the fuel pump. If your title has the serial number that has "AE" as part, you can buy a new tag & stamp those number yourself & attach it according to the pictures on the website I listed....Joe

Hello Tom, I would have a working email of you, I could send you a pic with a view inside my 1931 Chevy, to see the number plate. If yours is a Independence AE, maybe it would help to give you the VIN and motor number of my car, so you can locate the date of first registration maybe a little bit better.
Regards Stefan Now we havbe really winter here in germany, and everything is covered with snow...and my chevy is sleeping like a bear....will wake her up not before march....
