The transmission on my '32 Roadster is leaking around the countershaft at the front of the transmission. mad mad mad What is the easiest way to fix this leak. I have the transmission out of the car and only want to fix this leak. Is it necessary to disassemble the freewheeling unit and transmission to seal the countershaft? How is the countershaft held into the transmission (press fit, pinned or ???. Also does anyone have better pictures and description of the disassembly of the transmission than is covered in the Chevrolet Repair Manual? :confused: :confused: :confused:

No need for anyone to respond to this topic as I have resolved the problem. Previous Owner (or someone before I purchased the vehicle) had put the countershaft in backwards. Yes, there is a difference in the size of the holes and the size of the ends of the shaft.

Hum....in that case, while you are in there you might want to check the Trunnion Bearings on the universal joint because there is a front and a back on those as well (many dudes don't know that), and the Trunnions can be installed backwards too. :( :( :(

Okay. The universal joint trunnion bearings (there are four of them) have a hole that has a radius on one side and a flat shoulder on the other side. The side that has the radius goes on the universal joint first so that the hole with the radius will face the shoulder of the universal joint. The radius allows clearance between the trunnion bearing and the shoulder of the universal joint. laugh laugh laugh
