Morning gents,
New guy here. I recently came into ownership of a 40 business coupe. I've had it running and am in the process of rebuilding the carb, fuel pump and gas tank as the car sat for a few years
Also on the table is replacing the lower door skins, new ones came with the car.
If I could impose on someone with a business coupe to give me some measurements, say from the trim strip down to the bottom and something similar on the inside, I would be very appreciative. The old bottoms were completly shot and I don't want to end up with a door and inch or two too long or short. I thank you in advance for your help.

Thanks, I am replacing the lower door skins. ( inner and outter) And before I do any welding, I want to make sure I weld so they end up where they are supposed to be. (i.e. not too high or low) .
A few measurements at each and of the door, say near the trim piece I think would give me a good reference. Thanks again.

When you are taking measurements, be aware that there are 2 door skins that were used on the 1940 business coupe. One was the Special Deluxe models. That has trim mounting holes for the horizontal stainless steel trim piece that mounts on the door. The second door skin was the same for both the Master 85 and the Master Deluxe. It has no stainless trim on the doors, but it does have a metal trim piece that is permanently attached to the outer door skin. If needed, I can help you with dimensions for these 2 models.

I only know it to be a "business coupe" There is a strip of stainless just below the window and above the door handle. How do I determine if the is a "deluxe" or "Master"?
The car is not equipped with a back seat and I thought that was what determined this to be a business coupe/ Thnaks

When a 1940 Chevy has a stainless steel trim strip on the door, that automatically makes the 1940 a SPECIAL DELUXE model. If the car has no back seat, then the gas filler pipe is on the passenger side, just below the side small coupe window...that makes it a business coupe. By the way, the 18 gallon gas tank is under the flat wooden board that is just behind the front seat. The gas tank cannot be seen from the under side of the car.
