HELP! I have been challenged to write an article on aftermarket hubcaps. I have some caps but I need pictures of more. The picture I need is of a cap that does NOT have the bowtie or word Chevrolet. These caps will have a DASH where the bowtie would be on a correct cap.

If you can help, please send me pictures by email to: chev33radio@comcast.net

Thanks for your anticipated help.

Hi Ray,

What year or range of years are you looking for of the hubcaps?

I would suspect we would loose interest after 1948. I need these pictures to use as samples of aftermarket hubcaps. I know I have seen the - cap for 32. I have seen at one time the - on the 41-48 cap. So if you have any examples it would make my report more interesting.

(I just sold a set or 29-30 - caps at the last Portland Swap Meet.)

I can't recall ever seeing a 1949 and up aftermarket hub cap.
There were several versions of the 1941-1948 hub cap. Some said Chevdelux or just had "dots and dashes" rather than the name Chevrolet. This was perhaps one of the most popular hub caps ever made. Same for 1937-38, the 1939 and the 1940. For the earlier years the bowtie had no "knot" in the center.
If you could find an old J&R, Economy Boys, Gambles or such catalog I am sure they would have the "GYP" hub caps pictured.
At one time I had a set for the 1934 Master but they were made in Argentina.

I am amazed that I did not receive one picture. Have all of the aftermarket caps been destroyed?

I'm still going to do the article, just no pictures that takes the place of 1000 words.

Sorry about that Ray, but I have had one hectic week around here. I have some 1928 aftermarket aluminum hub caps I bought at a swap meet they are like new. I will try to get some pics this week, the only other aftermarket wheelcovers are a new in the box set of plain SS 15 inch wheel covers (full moons)I was going to put on a 51 Belaire.

Ray, I could put the request out there on the AACA site if you would like. There may be some hits in helping the project there, not sure. Let me know if you would like me to attempt that avenue. I have looked thru my pics and did not find anything. Are you interested in later reproductions. Similar to the Paul Hammond 30-32 Aluminum Hub Caps? Might be able to help with another reproduction cap that was made several years ago.

Mr Mack, I have a set of the 28 flying wheel, which is what started this endeavor. If you have something else for the 28 let me know.

VCCA Son, I appreciate your offer and it is a good one. I think I will go to press within the next two or three days. I would really like to have a picture of the 32 caps. I have seen them but don't have any. Would really help my article.

I think I still have a '29-'30 screw-on aluminum one for use with disc and wood wheels if that would help. It has a straight bar rather than the bowtie.

In my Region in Florida there was a member who had a '32 sedan with those caps on it. He is no longer a member, I just checked.

I remember in the late 60's early 70's seeing them in the J.C. Whitney catalog, and I thought they continued for "later" cars, into the 50's or even dog dish 60's?

Ray -- Will do.

I remember back in my Model A days (1960s) that J. C. Whitney used to sell Model A hubcaps that said "Fool" rather than "Ford". I always thought that was hilarious.

Ray, I apologize. After a couple of hours looking, I can't find the aftermarket '29-'30 hub cap. I now know that I have 19 of the screw-on hubcaps, 18 of which I can find. Where that one is, I don't know. It will show up some day and I'll send you a picture. Sorry for the false alarm.

All the Best, Chip

PS -- You haven't seen my piston ring compressor, have you? Can't find it either. Age is not always a good thing.

I looked thru a 1965 JC Whittney catalog hoping to find some of the "fake" Chevrolet caps. All that I could find were pictures of the Fool caps for Model A and T's. I have a 1920 Western Auto catalog. Nothing in there either. I'm trying to locate the reproduction caps for 30-32 in hopes of sending along those pics. I even looked over all the caps listed on eBay hoping to find you something. Nothing there. Hope we can find something. this might need to be an ongoing - occasional article.

Thanks for the help. Never worry, the article is already completed in my mind. It will be reduced to paper shortly.

I'm not getting any nibbles on the AACA site either. Sorry about that. I did see what look like the Alum PH 30-32 caps on a car for sale. Asked and will be getting pics of the caps. Will forward on as soon as I have. Look forward to seeing what you do have.

Ray,
Check out ebay item number 170275476552. It has a bogus '29-30 cap as part of a 6 cap lot.
