I have all the wiring for my headlights but haven't figured out how to get the lights working. The wires are hot. The dimmer switch will switch power from yellow wire to blue wire. But never to both at same time. How is this supposed to work??

I posed this ? a while back and the answer is that only one filament at a time whill get juice. What I was told was , with the car pulled up to the garage door, turn on the lights. The hi beam is the light that is higher up on the door.

The headlight bulbs have two filiments one centered in the reflector and the other slightly off. [The one centered has a higher current draw in some bulbs but not others.] The one centered produces more light so is the high beam. Obviously the other is the low beam.

Are you having a problem switching from hi to low beam or do you mean by "not working" that you have no lights at all? I had a problem on my 32 with "no lights at all" and found the problem was lack of a good ground due to too much paint around the mounting stud.Check it with a test light or multimeter grounding to the frame or similar good ground.

what means "the wires are hot"? Hot wires are a bad sign...

My chevy has new wires, and the wiring is that the power goes to light switch and from there to the dim switch. From there one line to "full light" and the other to "dimmed light". Never both together. Sorry, I cannot talk about colours because my car has completely new wires. Except some important wires the professional electrician who made it did forget and I did detect them with my nose...I could smell them getting hot because of bad contact and resistors everywhere
It is true, everything must have good ground on chassis, otherwise missing ground is a resistor and this point will get hot. And to check everything with a multimeter is not a bad idea at all.

wish you good luck...and never forget: To understand what is going on is 90% of the done repair...

"the wires are hot" bedeutet, dass die Leitungen Elektrizität in ihnen haben
