Hello All,

I have a 47 Chevy Fleetline that did not have a throttle cable connected when I purchased the car last year. Is there any tricks to reconnecting the cable to the throttle on the carburetor?

As always, any help in appreciated.

To hook up the throttle cable you must have the little Y shapped bracket that goes under the rear air horn screw. The braacket has a cable clamp and screw on each end. The choke cable is clamped into the horizontal one and the throttle cable in the verticle one.....I assume that your bracket is intact.
The outter housing of the throttle cable is clamped into the verticle about 1" from the end (going straight down) of the housing. The inner wire extends down from there and passes through the verticle rod....see hole in end of rod where it gpes through carb. lever. A cotter pin does not belong in the hole, the wire does. Extend about 1/2" of the wire through the hole and then install what is called a throttle stop just below the lever. Then when the knob is pulled out the lever will move up increasing engine speed. This lets the foot throttle over ride the hand throttle as necessary. Some day I am going to get a picture of mine and it will save a lot of explaining and be easier to understand. :)

I just hooked up mine on my 41 and have an extra bracket if any ones needs one. I did notice when I pull on the throttle cable the return spring seems to want to pull the knob back in is this normal or do I have too much tension on the spring or not enough slack on the cable { the slack seems fine.}

I'm so close to getting the car done but can;t rush it :vcca:

You probably oiled the cable wire too good....and the spring is too strong. At one time I did about the same thing. Oiled the wire so it would work nice and easy. As you drove along on the high-way with the "cruise controll" on the knob would slowly get closer to the dash.

I finally got around to connecting new throttle and choke cables that I received from a national vendor and the throttle cable does not keep the throttle open (I pull it out and it shuts immediately). Do you think the throttle spring is too strong or did I hook-up the cable incorrectly?

Thanks for your help.

If the cable is good quality you will need to twist the cable after it is pulled out. If this doesn't work you will need to remove the cable and place some dents in the sheath just after it comes through the dash. You will have to experiment as to how many and depth of the dents.
