I just acquired a beautiful 55 Chevy 210 wagon. It needs new tires and currently has 14" rims. As I recall, from my first '55 (over 40 years ago), the car had 15" rims.

Questions:
1. Is 15" the proper rim?
2. Do I need a specific rim to match the tires I select? (e.g., G75-15 or 6:70 15 or P225/75R15)?
3. Have members found the ideal size?

The proper wheel is a 15" X 5"... The 1955 and 1956 used the same wheels. Early 1955's had the rim riveted to the hub, late were welded.. It was the first year for tubeless tires. There were no over sized tires offered, probably due to the tire rubbing on the frame when the front wheels are fully turned.
The 6.70 X15 was the proper size for bias tires. The popular size used when modern radials are used is either 205/75 or 215/75. Either will have the frame rub problem and if the original style full wheels covers are used the wheel covers will either turn on the rims and cut off the valve stem or just plain fall of due to rim flex.
The original white walls were about 2 1/4" wide. New reproduction bias tires are available from many sorces. The original brands used in 1955 were US Royal, Firestone and Goodrich.
