I know of an original '28 Sport Cabriolet in Dallas, TX area that is in good original condition. There is one in the Houston, TX area but have lost the contact for it. Another in California has been restored and shows up on the VCCA 4-cyl tour. Actually the one in Dallas has also participated on past tours.

VCCA only has the information sent by members so does not know of all members who might have a 1928 Sport Cabriolet. And the VCCA publishes a roster of members every 5 years. The last was 2006 and next scheduled for 2011.

I am sure that the owners that I know about would be willing to show you their cars.

By the way there is another in Michigan. The owner frequents ChatII so likely will identify himself.

VCCA members have access to the Technical Advisor for 1928. It is a major benefit of VCCA membership.

Well, after nearly two months of private conversations using the VCCA website, Alahiker,(aka Robby) and his wife Brenda made the two day trip from Mobile, Alabama to the Lower Michigan area. Last evening we met at their Motel where we exchanged photographs of each others '28 Sport Cabriolet Convertibles along with lots of conversation about Cabriolets in general. Later they treated me to dinner where the conversation became more centered on family and individual life histories.

This morning Robby and Brenda arrived at my home where they spent two hours looking closely at my Carbiolet while taking many photographs. We drove the Cabriolet through an adjacent subdivision with each as a passenger. Robby took a turn at the wheel but Brenda would have no part of that. Robby is fortunate to have a spouse that has equal interest in the hobby. In the late morning they left to continue their vacation into northern Michigan and on into Canada.

All in all it was a pleasant experience. I gained two new friends with equal interest and I'm sure that our '28 Cabriolet conversations will contimnue into the future.

Oldie,
That is what the VCCA is all about. Members helping members to enjoy, maintain and restore their old Chevys.

Hi Chipper,
I noticed that you mentioned the Canadian made roadster pick-up in one of your chats about Arvid's nice truck in Norway. I have one that I am considering restoring and wonder if you could help me with the numbers on the block. I have not been able to figure out the pics posting yet but I did manage to get them on AACA. The casting # is348532. Does this # indicate where it was made? Thanks for any help. Peter E

The '28 engines were all made in Flint Michigan. That will not help with the id but may help identify when the engine was assembled. Typically the engines were assembled a few days after the blocks were cast so that would be Feb. '28 in your case.

David Hayward has done a bunch of research on Canadian production. Since I am not home I can't look up any information. I have a limited amount of information in my file cabinet.

Thankyou Chipper.
The engine # is 4087674, which I'm told is close to the end of production for '28(total being 557001) However I'm quite new to this. The first man from the US that i spoke with about 1928 Chevs was Wally Deck, a gentleman in his 80's and still restoring! He says he remembers these vehicles and quite inspired me to dig further. I have known Oldie for many years and found him to be a first-class person. In fact except for a few grumps most VCCAers are top quality people. It is the sharing of our experience and knowledge that helps others to get more Chevys on the road. Some of us have '28s and are closer than Oldie but don't have Sport Cabriolets.

There is a 28 Cabriolet near Lafayette, La. that is in restored
condition. I know the fella who owns it. How many are known to
have survived? I once heard it was fewer than fifteen. Dex

I recently spent the time to go thru the 2005 Members roster and there were 24 cars listed.Ours makes 25.I know that ther are more than that out there but it would still be a redicously low number in compairson to all other makes and models.Mind you it was a mid year introduction and the production was very low.If you have the chance to see Oldies cars you will be seeing the best of the best.My test for a car thats been restored would be to go back and mix it up with new production and see if you could pick it out. With both Oldies Roadster and his Cab you would be hard pressed to do that.I'm sure he could but I dont think anyone else could. There that good.He also a brave soul,he let me drive it and even offered to let Bren do the the same. She refuesed graceiously. One of the things that struck me was the sound while driving Oldies Cab was the sound.I havent driven our car in about 8 years and somewhere in my Pea sized Brain I knew the sound was exactly as it should be.Hopefull this week Bren and I will have our car running again thanks to a part Oldie let me have.I want to drive it around the neighborhood for awhile and then I'm going to pull the body and paint the frame and engine. So stay tuned.Robby

The owner of the Cabriolet in my area is a VCCA member so I think
the one here is in the registry.
