I recently pulled an older restoration '31 Special Sedan out of a barn after a 25 year rest and have been working on getting it running well. I did get it to start, but bent at least 2 push rods in the process. Turns out I have a '29 block. The push rods are 9 1/4 inches long with a 'bell" on the bottom. My '29 has longer straight stick push rods and my other '31 has rods with a cup on top. Can anyone please tell me what my push rods are from; and, even better, tell me where I can find either new or used replacements? Thanks. Con Oamek, Redlands, CA (951) 415-6039

Check with C&P Automotive in Pacific Palisades, CA 90272
(310) 454-0015‎ [www.billypossum.com]. They reproduce several parts for early six cylinders and are dedicated VCCAers. They also drive their cars.

Thanks for the suggestion; I have their '29 push rods, but something else was used in this engine. I called them anyway, but they are out for a couple days. I don't know where to look to find a picture of a 216, or a 235 push rod. I was hoping someone could tell me what they look like.

216 or 235 push rods probably won't do you any good since the shortest one made for a Chevrolet up through 1953 is 10 7/16" long. You will probably have to fabricate the push rods that you need since the push rods in your engine apparently are odd balls.

wink :)

I looked through my pile of used parts and found some push rods I believe are from a '31. They are rounded on one end and a bell on the other and measure 11 7/8" long. I also found one that measures 10 1/2". Don't know what that is from. If you need a few of the longer ones, let me know. Keep in mind that they are used.

I think I'm a fairly wise person because I'm smart enough to realise I'm not too bright.

Wow, thanks for your offer. I am pretty sure someone took one of the longer rods and mated them with a different lifter by shortening them. Unless I learn otherwise, that is what I hope to do. I will send contact information in an email. Con

Your lifters should allow the pushrod to sit deeply into the lifter,
These are the same up to 1939.
1940 lifters changed to having the pushrod sit on top of the lifter in a little cup.

Apparently the lifters are incorrect as well.
