I picked up a kit for my 31 wiper motor, where can I get an exploded view of the wiper motor? It seems pretty simple but I have question with the small parts on the opposite side of the arm Thanks John

Hi John, is it a TRICO vacuum wiper? I dont have an exploded view, but I hade trouble with my wiper-motor and did repair it, ask your question, mybe I can help you. I often work on a 100 year old pneumatic organ in our church, and it is not a big difference between the system to power an organ and a wiper. pneumatics are pneumatics... Regards Stefan

Do you mean the spring that causes the wiper to change directions?

John, It depends on which Trico motor you have. The original is a Sp. 954-A or KCX-9 (aftermarket number). These have a cover over the switching mechanism held on by two screws and a Trico logo plate. Later KSB or RSB type motors were offered as replacements. These have snap on covers. The switching parts are different for each series motor. I will see if I can find diagrams. Just returned home so things are a bit disorganized.
Basically each motor has a tab or flat on the paddle shaft that contacts a couple of small parts tensioned by a spring that move a plate side to side. The plate has a depression that connects two of three ports on the wiper body. The center one is vacuum and each side connects with one side of the cavity.

Chipper did explain it in a perfect way, so there is nothing to add. To understand how it should work I did remove the complete unit from my car and made an arrangement downstairs in the house in my "cabinet of miracles" using an old vacuum cleaner with adjustable speed and sucking power so I could easily find out how it works and repair it. To sit downstairs at home with an old vacuum cleaner is much more easy and cheap than to work at the car and to run the engine all the time and waisting the now (in germany) horrible expensive gasoline. The wiper is working now but not good. There are some air-leaks because of old and bad metal...collectors of old german maerklin toy trains know the problem, sorry, I cannot translate the word "Zinkpest", but this kind of metal often gets bad after 50 or more years and it is impossible to stop the "self destructing"...so I bought some old tricos in ebay USA and hope with all this old wrecks it is possible to build one working wiper. Germanchevy, sounds like your "Zinkpest" is American "Pot metal". It just starts to crumbble after many years. Good luck with all your parts. Hope that you can get one good wiper out of it. :vcca:
