Hello All,
I'm finally getting started on my '32 BA Confederate! This car was purchased by the previous owner in 1958, taken apart in 1963, and sat in the garage until I recently received it. In sorting out and assembling parts and wiring, I'm a little stumped on the generator connections. My new (purchased in 1963) wiring harness has a single connection for the generator but the generator has 4 connections: armature, field, and 2 connections at what I assume is the circuit breaker mounted on the top of the generator. In addition, there is a box mounted on the firewall with 5 connections: 2 marked "lights" 2 marked "switch" and one marked "Bat". The one wire that was still attached to this box was labeled "generator". I've read that there were special equipment generators, could this setup be one of those or is this an early modification? Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated!

Hi There and welcome to Chevy Chatter II.

Yes, your charging system has been modified at one point in time. The correct generator for 1932 is a Delco-Remy Model 943-J. It should have only one wire and that wire goes to the "GEN"
terminal on the cut-out relay that sits on top of the generator. The "BATT" terminal on the other side of the cut-out relay goes to the back of the ammeter. There are no other connections from the generator, and there is no "box" on the firewall.

To further understand how the 1932 charging system is wired you can order a wiring diagram from the Filling Station in Lebanon, Oregon. Go here: www.fillingstation.com

wink :)

Thanks Junkyard,

I thought something was suspicious... all of the pics of 32s that I've seen do not have a regulator mounted on the firewall. I've got a schematic already, I think now that I'll need to find the correct generator, anyone got any source for a 32 generator?

Thanks again for the reply!

Arvonian, you should get in contact with Bruce Bugay, who carrries lots of parts for cars of your vintage and who is also in Virginia, near Richmond. His handle on this site is "Chevy b". I'm sure he can help you with some of the things you need.

All the Best, Chip
