Hey Chris, Our clever friends in Norway seem to get lots of beaut pics here OK. Just a matter of knowing how, and I don't. Your other option is to go to Google and upload their Picasa2 photo management program to your computer if you do not have it, and put your pics there. Next click on the Web Album button(to set up a URL)and it will copy desired pictures there.(all this is completely free) Then when typing here on the chat site, click on the third icon button at the top of the page and enter your Web Album address that they will have given you. This then appears on your page that you are working on as an active link. I did have to remove the img at the ends of the address that apppears, before it would become active. That's it. Hey presto we can then all look at your Chev ute pics which I'm sure everyone will find very interesting, me especially. And if I can get this to work then anyone can! The Picassa Web Album also does a great full size slide show of the photos just by clicking on one. Did you try mine above for a sample. Cheers, Geoff.

as in 'utility' - also common use in New Zealand but suspect we got the expression of Aus. Wasn't there a chev marketed as a utility express?

Arvid. Thankyou for your clear well layed out instructions. I have saved them for posting pics later. Nothing wrong with your English either. I admire your skills with two languages, most of us struggle with one! I hope Chris can get something to work also.It would appear he has a lot of historic photos that we should find very interesting indeed.
Sorry Oscar about the corrupted english. Yes, the other replies are right. Utes is short for Utilities, the name given by Australian manufacturers to pickups. Did you open the link in my post of the 31/8/08 to see the picture of mine and what we are talking about? I suppose the difference historically might be that Australian Utilities have been mostly car based and the US pickups truck based. The terms are now interchanged and applied to anything that has a rear tub/tray. It comes literally from the word "utility" meaning of versatile or widespread use. In the early 30's the Australian industry produced a world first with a utility based on the coupe body. From necessity it was cleverly based on cars and panels already in production, but the rear tray was smoothly blended into the cabin to make a very smart looking vehicle indeed. US pickups were more truck like and the tray section was a separate bolt-on tub. Holden and Ford still make large numbers of current versions based on their Commodore and Falcon sedans respectively. Although, they now tend to be rather flashy, well appointed, and fast sports cars for young blokes, rather than dual purpose town/work vehicles as first created. I do not know about the latest versions, but Holden body plates right up to recent times still identified the vehicle as a "coupe utility". There was talk of the current Holden Ute being rebadged as a Chevrolet for the US market. Cheers, Geoff.

I haven't forgotten to get some photos to you all, it will take me a bit of time to sort the ute photos into one file. I've started working on it but it'll take me a while Chris

My daughter-in-law recently returned from the USA. She mentioned that her Dad had a sedan and a one ton ute. This amused a lot of people.Apparently a "ute" is an American Indian. She also commented on the usage of the word "butt". We have a tree called a "Blackbutt" which most probably also means something else in the USA. I must sit down and write up a list of words that have different meanings. For example you say "trunk"; we say "boot". You say "hood"; we say "bonnet"; you say "fender"; we say "mudguard"...the list goes on. I always have to think twice when checking parts from the USA.

Gents This is my first attempt at posting a photo, thanks Arvid, however my son in law is a computer nut and he showed me a better way using photobucket. The photo attached is one that GM in Australia use as a promo as their 'contender for Auastralia's first ute' they claim it as a 26 model, however it clearly shows a split diff, and it was made by a private company called Miller bros. Now that i know how, I'll send in (a few at a time) as i have heaps. When you get sick of them please let me know and I'll stop sending them Chris ![[Linked Image from i529.photobucket.com]](http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd333/chevguroo/utes/26factute01.jpg)

All of those drivers are sitting on the wrong side of the vehicle, and besides that, they are driving on the wrong side of the road. However, I wouldn't mind having one of those "utes".

Ripper Chris, Great photos and thanks for making the effort for us all. Even after all these years I have not seen a "Miller " body ute before but I came from Victoria so they all were more the style of the cream car in your photo. However in wetter old Vic. often a lot of the remains I used to come across were utes with a built in hard top cabin. Some of these were beautifully crafted. But the majority were converted "on the cheap" old tourers and often pretty rough indeed. The cream ute you show has a well base tray and not many realise that the advantage of these was that the extension over the rear guard allowed builders and plumbers in particular to carry long lengths of materials very capably by running them the length of the car and resting the lengths on a similarly shaped bracket mounted off the front dumb-iron or even to the top of the front guard. Keep the pics rolling Chris, most interesting. Maybe we should change the thread name to be simply UTES. Such is life here Ray; everything is back the front, inside out and upside down. It's a wonder anything works at all. Spare a thought for us as we battle the tangle resulting from a steering column stuffed down the right side of every Yank Tank when all of them were designed to have it on the left. Can't you just hear the designers chuckling "wait until this lot gets RHD; won't the mechanics love us." You guys have it so easy. Geoff.

Hello Chris and Geoff
Thank you for pictures and "ute" info. Are the pictures from a "ute" rally? All pictures are taken from the same place at the same time?
I was in NSW some years ago and can confirm, they are driving on left side of the road, and the steering wheel on the right side. Beyond this, everything was quite normal.
Regards Arvid

The photos were taken last October at the VVCAA (Aus. Chev Club) 40th Anniversary Rally, which was held in Wagga with about 130 entrants form all over Australia ranging from my 1915 Amesbury Special up to 1948 models which was the cut off date for our club. There was a photo of every Chev taken at the same spot out on a country road. I'm trying to set up a link to my "photobucket" files so as not to glog up the chat column Chris
