Both the Job Number and the Body Number are stamped into the wood. "Fisher Body Corp." is also stamped into the wood as well. :)

There might be a second number on that board that sould match the body number. In other words, if you have a 31559 job number, that number should be on that board. If the second line on the trim tag (body no.) reads K 357, the number 357 will be on that board as Skip has indicated...Joe

Actually if "K 357" is on the cowl tag, "K C 357" will be stamped on the wood. :)

Okay Dog, thanks for the reply. I asked the question because on my '28 Sport Cabriolet Conv. The Cowl Fisher Body tag reads Job #8200 Body #10571. The stamped information on the wooden seat frame reads Fisher Body Job #8200 Body C 10571. The Vehicle serial number starts with 1 AB which indicates a Flint assembled vehicle. The C in the Fisher body number (seat frame only) has always been of interest to me.

Ya, just the letter "C" makes no sense, and it would be very interesting to find out what it means. Joe: Remember, different factories did different things. On the 1930 Kansas City cars "KC" was stamped in front of the body number. However, on my all original 1932 Special Sedan, which is an Oakland car, there is no letter stamped in front of the body number as you indicated......just the body number only. This seems to be the same on other 1932 Oakland cars that I have seen in the past. :)

Thanks again. I read or had a discussion with someone a long time back, and if I remember correctly the notion was spread that the early "enclosed body" units(convertibles with roll up windows) were built at the Fisher Plant in Cleveland and shipped to individual assembly plants. I have no official information on that subject though.

The C is for the Cleveland Fisher Body plant- Fisher Body Ohio Company, Coit Road, Cleveland, Ohio. Incorporated in 1920 for $10 million to build 5 story $350,000 Fisher Body Plant with 1,500,000 sq ft opened in 1921 as the largest body plant in the world to supplied the Chandler bodies. It built the first Chevrolet Sedan body the night before Thanksgiving, 1921. Over the years the Cleveland plant was used to build the low pro-duction bodies like the 1928 Chevrolet Convertible [blank plant code] the 55-57 Nomad, Plant Code CL, and the Cadillac Eldorado. It was a metal fabrication plant when closed in August 1983 kenK

From the mid fifties to the early sixties all of our station wagon bobies were built by Fisher Body and shipped to the Arlington plant by rail. We were a BOP plant at the time. In the early sixties (I believe it was 1962 but I could be off a year or so) after the Chevrolet arrived we began building the wagon bodies in our body shop and continued building them until the plant was converted to a truck plant.
