There is about a 1/2" x 4" area (on the body) of glue that had seaped out from the welt on my rear fender. The paint job looks good, other than that spot. Is there a cleaner that can help? Or, does that area have to be repainted? Help. Thanks,

Fender welting shouldn't have been glued on. It's held together by virtue of the fender being bolted onto the body.

Try a product called "Goo Gone" which (depending on the glue used) should 'melt' or soften the glue enough to wipe it off without harming the paint. Might try it on a hidden painted surface first, just to make sure it won't harm the paint.

If the"Goo Gone" doesn't work, try some WD40.

Good Luck

It sounds like your question has been handled well by these guys, who are always so generous with knowledge.

I also had some "glue" on the rear fender of my 41. I used Simple Green to remove 90% of it. The remaining 10% came off with my finger nail, then some paint Cleaner. Followed by a good polishing.

Additionally I have found Simple Green to do an excellent job cleaning my Eng., fender wells and undercarriage. It cleans well, does not leave a residue and dries to a nice flat, stock looking finish. But be careful, in a closed environment the fumes can make your head a little "fuzzy." Kind of like 3-4 beers, so they tell me drink

Best of luck,

I want to thank Bob, Ken and Mike on all the help. The welt looks a heck of a lot better without that glue showing.

Watch out for simple green, I've had it damage paint on old radios that I've restored.
