Hand signals are still taught in drivers ed classes, but are usually taught in the sections related to bicyclers. When I took my driver's ed class back in Missouri (in 1996.. yeah, I'm a young'in), they also had pictures showing how the signs are used by a driver in an automobile.
Des Moines, where I live currently, is not the largest metropolis, but I've had no real scares yet when driving my '28 Capitol 1-ton around. Of course, it still looks like it was just pulled out of an old Iowa barn out in the country, and doesn't look like its the best insured vehicle.. so I'm pretty sure that many of the drivers are being more careful around me for their sake than mine. :)

Thanks for jumping in A Elliot. I asked my 17 yr old and she still insists that she's never heard of those hand signals. If they taught text messenging should she would have it down pat!
I took the Coupe for a long ride late yesterday afternoon. About 5pm. No one was on the road and it went pretty smooth. Only one soccer mom cut me off coming out of the A&P parking lot. Yes, she was on the phone!
I checked the tire pressure before leaving and made sure I had at least 30 psi in all tires. 32psi is recommended in the manual. I ran over some rough surfaces and she still wanted to jump around and I had to hang on to the steering wheel. I wonder if my shocks are a bit too stiff. (?)
Best part of the ride was when I passed by two 10 yr old boys and they gave me the thumbs up sign. I even stopped for gas ($3.96 for Reg.) and the guy asked how much the car costs. I told him $20,000.00 and he said I got a good deal! (hmmmm...)
Today there is a local all makes car show in town. I'll see if I can take some pictures.

[ Today there is a local all makes car show in town. I'll see if I can take some pictures. Ray [/quote] Some members of our state antique and classic car club just did an "All Orginal" car show in Billings Montana, nothing newer than 1975 and all entries had to be at least 90% original. Show was free and Go was free. 200 cars, some from out of state and never seen by these old eyes until the show. People all over the place and nice trophies. All manufacturers were eligible and cars were sorted by make so if you liked Chevrolets you could just walk up to rows of them and not have to look at Fords.

Well I took the Coupe to the car show only it ended early due to storms in the area. It was not official entered and we left at Noon.
Sorry no time for me to take pictures but the club should have some soon on their web site. I'll post a link here when they are up.
This club is mostly 50's golden oldies and hot rods, but also have a large following of non-members with stock 60's cars. The showing for stock antiques was kind of poor. One 39 Chevy business coupe, 2 Model A trucks, one Model A 2dr, a 39 Plymouth 4dr. and a late 40's Dodge.
