Now that I have my '50 drivable I need to get some tires on it. It has 6.70-15's on it now. I believe that is the OE size. I've been pricing vintage tires of that size in different brands and I'm finding that they want plenty of $$ for them. Have any of you tried something in a more modern type tire? I realize that the modern P series radials are different in design and how they work. I'm just wondering if anyone has tried.
Thanks

Many people opt for radial tires on these cars, but,I prefer the bias ply. Here is a link to Universal Tire.Scroll all the way down, there is a black wall there for $110.00 a tire.Good luck with which ever you choose. http://www.universaltire.com/cart.php?target=search&substring=670-15

Hi Don, When I bought my '50 Belair it had P215/75R15 radials. They are wider than the OE bias ply, but haven't been any problem. I think I will go to the P205 when they need to be replaced.

Don,
I know a number of guys who have trucks your vintage that use black wall "modern" radials. P205's and 215's. One fella put on 225's and likes the way they look. Tires like that are about $50 each, from my tire guy. Wide whites would definitely be MY preference. But they're nearly 3 times as much. And in the day, you never saw white walls on trucks. Pick-ups were for workin' in those days. Just a few thoughts....
Bill.
