On top of my doors, there is an obvious component that was long ago deleted on the hinge side of the door. There is a "slot" in the wood, and a spring is installed there. It strikes me that this was some sort of attempt to s-l-o-w-l-y stop the door if it was opened too wide rather than snap it at the end of a canvas strap. I have the slot, and the spring, and I don't know what to call the remaining parts. I can't even look 'em up without a name.

I'm having a different problem with the "A" post...opposite from the hinge end. I have what I call a latch. When you turn the door opener, the door latch is pulled within the door and the "latch" and striker are disengaged. Then you can open the door. And, I have matched these parts up in a couple of books.

BUT there is also a "guide" mechanism on the post above the latch. At this point there is only a blank area in the door. It appears to me that there should be some sort of pin on the door to align the door (up and down) on the post as you close the door. This will then guarantee correct alignment up and down.

Any experience with these parts and what their names/numbers are would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Don

The slot and spring is part of the door check mechanism. Apparently your are missing the arm assembly. I may have a couple around there somewhere.

The other part is the dovetail assembly. The dovetail is a wedge shaped piece screwed to the door. There is a assembly that is screwed into the door post that has bumper/alignment pads to help align the door as it is closed.

How Sweet the roar of a Chevy four!

I just came in from the Garage. I studied the area of the door check mechanism. You are right, I am missing the arm assembly for each door.

I removed the dovetail assy very carefully to make sure I fully understood it. It is as you describe... only the post for each door is missing.

Let me know if you have the parts and I will send you a check.

This is off the subject.. but I'll explain. I'm leaving (Central PA) for Myrtle Beach Friday AM. The highlight of my trip down will be stopping in Virginia to pick up a transmission and 2 springs for my truck acquired via this organization and this web site.

My point in boring you is that without the club, I would be crying a river daily trying to find parts, acquire knowledge, and keep "up" about my re-build. Candidly, there are a bunch of folks that want my truck to cut up into a street rod. Without the club, I would be tempted.

I'm not the first nor the last to recognize this organization for the good it does. Stay strong, keep it respectable, save what you can, and enjoy the roar of a Chevy 4. Thanks.
