Has your engine been rebuilt (new pistons) recently? If the starter works when cold, then it probably is not the starter. Do you retard the spark when starting the engine hot?

The problem is most likely the ground circuit. As temperature rises so can the resistance in a corroded or dirty connection. Clean the connections. If that does not improve the hot starting then connect a good ground from the starter direct to the battery. That should solve the problem if the connection or current path is the problem.

Hi Ray

I was buy the car 10 years ago in canada and now after 10 years restauration i drive with the car
the dealer was told me the engine was rebuild...
i was put the timing from 12 to 18 degrees (18 degrees at 750 R.P.M so wen i start the engine the timing is at 12 degrees wen i drive the car now at 18 degrees the cars runs very well...maby i have to put the ignition back to 5 degrees to start???but there is plate at the distributor wen i turn the ignition back from 18 degrees back to 12 degrees that is the maximum....maby i have to make a bigger hole in that plate the i can make a biger turn from 5 degrees to 18 degrees...
Thanks

If the car starts without problem while cold and you have retarded the spark, then don't change anything else about the timing.

Am I to understand the car has not been driven very much since the engine was rebuilt several years ago? If so, then it needs to be operated.

With some more operating time on the engine it will begin to start easier.
