I could use some help locating a complete set of Standard OEM rings for my car. I have checked the cylinders and they are ok so I am going to reuse the original standard pistons. Also, is it better to use a copper head gasket or one made of another type of material. All I have ever used is copper on these old engines.

Copper, metal or "Steelbestos" head gaskets are all good to use.

If you have not already found a set of STD rings you might consider an oversize and then end file the rings to fit. The rings you are looking for fit '29-'32 original pistons. The later '33 ring sets and the '33 and '34-'36 will not work. I may have a set of '29-'32 but need to check.

Thanks, I spent today checking the spec's on my crank and I have .011 end play on my crank. Is that enough to make noise or will I be ok with that? I know that is alot but is it to much? I know that the manual says up to .011 will not cause any noise but what is your opinion and that of the VCCA members. Thanks

If you only have 0.011 on a used engine count your blessings. It should not cause any problems or noise. I have run engines with 4-5 times as much end play. When you can accelerate/ decelerate and watch the front pulley move back and forth it is too much. Still need to look for the rings.

If Chipper doesn't find his, I have a set of .030" oversize rings that could be filed to fit. A good bit of work, but it might save a good bit of money. Just send me a PM or an e-mail to thedogwatch@bellsouth.net if interested.

All the Best,

Chip

Thanks, Are the rings that you have cut straight at the gap or are they tappered? Not sure how you would get the clearance right if they are tappered like the originals were. I will let you know though. Thanks again.

I think they are straight, but I'll have to look again.

I'll check it when I get home next week and send you a PM......

All the Best, Chip.

Stargate31, If you haven't found any rings yet you might want to try calling "Lester Harris" (775-267-2559). He is in Minden,Nevada. I bought a set of rings from him for my 31 coupe, prices were reasonable and he is very honest. He has a lot of NOS engine parts. Good luck with your project.
