There is either a hole in my 207's rear side, or there is another (3rd) freeze plug behind the bell housing, below the one I can see in the rear of the block. I suddenly lost all my coolant, which ran out of the bottom of the bell housing.

Does anyone have a 207 out of their vehicle, or can recall the configuration at the rear of the block?

Thanks for any replies. A photo would be appreciated.

Chevy b,

Glad to report that there is, in fact, another freeze plug behind the bell housing on a 207. Thanks to VCCA member 33_Chevy_Truck's photo of his engine block:

Now I know what I have to fix!

Wally,
I hope for your sake that the '33 engine pictured is the same as your '36. If it's a bad freeze plug is isn't too bad a fix.

A word of caution...I know for certain that not all 207 blocks are the same. Beginning in 1936 the cooling capacity was significantly increased...something like an additional 5 quarts of capacity was added, so there are some major differences from the early 207's vs. the '36 block. As I said, hopefully the '36 block has the core plug/freeze plug as photographed.

Coach,

Both blocks have the same casting number - 836010. His was cast in April, 36 and mine in May.

I have gone back and checked the block and now see that I made a error. Too many engine blocks and I was looking at a 1931.
Sorry,

I am not sure when they added the second rear freeze plug, but I know that in 36 they went to a full water jacket. That would seem like the year they would add it??
