Hi again fellows, I regret to inform you that there will be no 2009 calendar. This has been a really fun project, but due to the lack of interest on behalf of the club I will no longer do this project. No big deal as far as I'm concerned, I just want to let everyone know so you don't send me photos for 2009. Thanks for all of your support over the past 5 years, it has been fun. Jim :vcca:

Jim, The calendars will be missed. They were a great addition to the VCCA. I have each of them and will keep them in a special place.
Sorry that there was not enough interest to keep it going.
Thanks for your time and efforts to make the VCCA a better organization.

Sorry to hear that. Thanks for the past calendars.

Hi Jim, I can certainly appreciate where you are coming from. I too wish to say "THANKS" for your previous work. Your calendar is proudly displayed in my office. FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Perhaps some club would like to take on this project as a way of earning a few bucks for the club. Take a look in the back pages of the G&D and perhaps contact one of the clubs for advice. Check with mike41(?)(Mike Welch)who sells the hats for advice. You wouldn't get rich, but might pay for an ice cream social at a club meeting.

Jim, I too want to thank-you for a great job, I will miss them, but what was the specific lack of club interest? Sales, photos, or personal? John Mahoney

Hi John, The problem was keeping the costs down. It was a problem because we needed to sell a large number to get a lower printing cost, but I couldn't get enough buyers to bring the costs down (at $12 I understand). Anyway, the interest in the calendar kept going down and last year I just thought what if the club would be interested in helping the project along. A motion was submitted and defeated. The thing is, had we printed 8500 copies, then the cost would have dropped from the $12 range to $1.95. That's really too bad, because we could have even given them away at special events to promote the club at that price. Again, no big deal on my part - I just really enjoyed participating in the club and enjoyed meeting more members. Jim

I would have thought that the BOD or Marketing Committee would have found some benefit in having a Calendar with VCCA members vehicles and promoting the VCCA available to sell to vendors, members and other interested collectors. Just think if we provided a $ 12 value calendar to our members for $ 1.95 plus postage (not much if packaged with the December issue of the G&D). Another membership benefit missed?

Definitely a thank you to you, jimk; I only bought last years edition (it's at times like this, when I realllllllly wish I'd been aware of this site earlier!), but I thought it was really sharp-looking. I gave one to my uncle, and he liked it too (and he doesn't even own an old car). Still, I understand why you eventually have to say "enough", when a project just isn't getting enough support. A lot of time and resources can be better used on one's own projects. Anyway, thanks for your efforts! Obob

Jim, Just want to clarify a thing or two. The motion that was seeking support from the national was not voted down but rather withdrawn by the author during the executive committee discussion. This all happened in the 24 hours prior to your post, so you had the news before most of the BOD. You are correct about the lack of support, part of the reason that we could not justify printing 8,500 copies is that we do not have a large amount of members spending money to purchase them now so it was hard to justify spending money on an item that the membership really has not shown that much interest in. The motion that was submitted was not as cut and dry as people are being led to believe. It involved a dues increase, and there was a lot of unknown cost's, and the cost involved is needed to make an intelligent decision. To refer to it as a blown opportunity is really not fair when the motion was withdrawn. Hey if anyone wanted the calendar it was me, my 62 was going to be in the 2009 edition, oh well John Mahoney VP

Yes, there was not the demand some of us felt there would be. Sometimes a good idea don't get going because it didn't sell to a majority of the potential buyers.

John, Since you personally addressed me in your posting, I have no choice but to assume your comments were directed at me.
I am/was in no way trying to mislead anyone.
I did not say this was a "blown" opportunity.
All I was doing was letting you guys know there would be no 2009 calendar and I wanted to thank everyone for their support. That is all. You asked my why. I told you lack of interest, but based on your posting you already knew that. Sometimes things just don't work out - I understand that. Why am I confused?

Jim, I want to thank you for devoting all the time and effort and talent you put into the calendar for two years, I will always treasure mine, as I am sure many VCCA members will. I am sorry that every member that has a Vintage Chevrolet has not had one or more of their cars displayed on one of the calendars. I am a bit flabbergasted that the club didn't support your efforts fully. Thanks,

Hey Jim,
Yes. Yes. Thanks for all your work on the calendars.
I'll never get over the Jan, 2007 car. And all the 'ads' for the 2007 calendar that featured that car. All the more special now, seeing as how I sold the car a couple of months ago.
Thanks again for all you did. Not much of a reward for all your time. But the appreciation is very sincere.
I wish there was something that could be done to keep the calendars going....
Bill.

Jim, more than you may know I appreciate your talents, efforts and interest in the calendars.
Also as I am sure you, and many other members are aware, your contribution helped VCCA in so many ways. One of them bring an adding fun & "VALUE" to the club & members. Both tangible assets.
I am unaware of the issues that keep you from continuing this process. But if there is any way I, or the club can assist with continuing these calendars please let me know.
All the best, and thank-you, thank-you, thank you. Michael41

Yes Jim, Thanks for all your work. What would happen if the dues were raised $5.00 and everyone got a calendar slipped into there December G&D? Would that cover the costs? Just a thought.

Sal, I think that the problem is that the National club would have to finance the purchase of over 8,000 copies up front,to get a decent price then probably raise the dues, VCCA publishes the G&D and runs the club on the dues of the members and a few donations and some advertising. having to raise the dues is one battle the National BOD may not want to fight at this point in time.
I know I would not care to have my dues raised, I would rather pay the $12.00 to Jim, myself, rather than obligate every member by raising the dues, some of them may not want a calendar. just my opinion. Every member of VCCA may not see the value of Jim's fine work as much as some of us do.

You would also have to consider the cost of mailing the G&D for that month due to the extra weight of the calendar. :)

Mike and Sal, I have confidence in the way the BOD has in seeing the overall picture of the means and shortcomings of the club. I also think that they will do the right thing with this oppurtunity to move in the right direction and add real value to the club, all in good time. I can't believe we will squander the efforts and talents of people like Jim.
