Hello, The generator on my 22 490 does not charge. It was rebuilt by some fellow in the north west about 15 years ago. It has not worked in years, my late Father felt that he had probably oiled the bearing too much thus causing it to malfunction. Is this relatively easy to sort out? I understand the generator providing power from cam to distributor would mean I would have to re time the engine upon re-assembly. I can accomplish that. Any input is appreciated. Dex

Oneseventyone; Take a 6 volt test light or a volt meter and check to see if you have battery voltage at the positive wire going into the generator. If no power, then work your way back to the voltage regulator on top of the generator and then to the ignition switch to find the break in the circuit. If you have battery voltage at the generator, then remove the generator for disassembly and repair. It could be just an oil film on the commutator Good luck.

With the engine running, check for voltage on each end of the CIRCUIT BREAKER. If you don't have voltage on the generator side, then the generator is defective.
