Hello All,
Does anyone know what size washer should go on a drain plug from a 1947 Chevy 216 engine. When I purchased the car it did not have a washer on the drain plug. My drain plug size 7/8 inch to remove but has a much smaller sized hole in the oil pan.
As always, thanks for your help.

If your pan has the original standard size dring plug, not an oversize self-tapping, The I.D. of the center opening will be 1/2". The original drain plug was copper with an asbestos insert. Today you can find washers made from a variety of material including nylon. They all work, more or less.

Thanks for the information Gene.
I think the drain plug is original. I found one at a Chevy dealership that was copper with a rubber insert in the middle. It seems to be stopping the leak (so far).
Again, thanks for your help.
