Hi,
Can anyone tell me the difference between a 27-28 timing gear, part number 348590, which is 13/16 wide and has 52 teeth and a 29-32(33-34 standard) timing gear, part number 835730, which is 13/16 wide and has 52 teeth?
The only thing that I can see is the pass through holes to get to the screws or the timing markings, which really don't matter if the gear is the same.

Is the outside diameter the same for both? Is the camshaft pilot hole the same diameter? Check the timing mark location (little dot)in relationship to the key way when this mark is lined up with the one on the crank gear; it determines the cam shaft timing. Note some of the replacement gears do not have the dot in that case you count gear teeth in a clockwise direction from the key way to line up with the crank gear. 31-32 11 teeth on cam and 4 teeth on crank, 34 Standard 11 teeth on cam and 4 teeth on crank, 33 Master 15 teeth on cam 5 teeth on crank, 34 Master 12 teeth on cam and 4 teeth on crank. Don't have the information on 4 cyl. models.

34 & 35 trucks are the greatest. 36 high cabs are OK too.

The bore of the steel hub that is pressed onto the camshaft gear mounting spigot is larger on the '29-'34 standards, the '28 gear hub bore is fractionally smaller. You could possibly get away with using a '28 cam gear,if you get it bored out to suit the 6 cyl camshaft spigot, broach a new keyway in the correct position, and re-mark the cam to crank marks.

Hi Guys!
Thanks for the info! That is just what I was looking for. I'm working on a project to have these reproduced and have found a company that is willing to try, but I need to find a sample of a good 28 gear (New or Used). I have a 29 to 34 Chevrolet gear, if I can find it and a 33 to 36 Chevrolet gear.
The gear that I have marked as a 28 looked too much like a 29 to 34 gear.
If anyone has one and willing to part with it for a few months please let me know?
