Hi,
I have a set of Rally Wheels from a 1977 Monte Carlo that I once owned. I had put a set of chrome rims on it and I left them on when I sold the car, thinking that someday the rally wheels may have some value. Well, a guy I know has a 1953 Chevy that he wants to put my rims on, and I'm wondering what the value might be. I also have the center caps and the rings, which I don't know if he wants or not. Naturally, they are used, but in good shape. Can anyone tell me what would be a fair price for both of us??? Thanks and I'm really looking forward to getting some good info from your site. I am getting my membership ready to go in the mail, too.
P.S. I own a 1957 Chevy Bel Air Sedan (older restoration). It was my dad's (he just passed away 2 weeks ago tonight, age 65) and he wanted me to have it. I also have a 1965 Impala Convertible that is in the process of restoration now, and hopefully will be done by the end of summer. Both have non-original motors (350's), but otherwise will be original. I also remember my dad buying a brand new dark green 1972 Impala 2 door hardtop with black vinyl(??) roof when I was 5 years old (wishing now we still had it) and my brother had a 1974 Monte Carlo and I had my 1977 Monte Carlo. So I've been around a few Chevys in my day.

PRESUMING you're talking about correct '77 Rally (Turbine) wheels like in this ebay auction Pair of '77 Rally Wheels on ebay I'd say they're probably $25-$50 each. Depending on condition of the wheels and center caps and so on. I'm quite sure the auction is incorrect when it lists these wheels as 73-77. I don't think they were available until 1977. Maybe 1976 and 1977. On the other hand, if you're talking about the "First Generation" rally wheels (often called Corvette Rally Wheels), I'd say those would be worth about twice as much. Maybe up toward $400 if the wheels have a fresh coat of paint and the trim rings and center caps are very nice - or even 'new' reproductions. Hope this helps. Bill.

Thanks Bill, They are not the Rally Turbine wheels like the ones on auction. If I remember correctly, those are what my brother had on his 1974 Monte Carlo. So mine must be the "First Generation" or Corvette rally wheels, as you call them. I guess I don't know how many different styles there were, but the style of mine I see on ebay are listed for Corvettes, Camaros, Chevelles. It's hard to tell from the pictures on this auction because of the hub caps, but this is what they are like. Again it's hard to tell from the pictures, but I believe my center caps are different. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Rall...itemZ120268031472QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVWI think I'll go dig mine out and take a picture to post and maybe you guys can help me out and tell me exactly what I have. Randy

Hi Randy, Your picture idea is a good one. Sometimes a picture is worth a 1000 words. A "set of rally wheels" isn't as simple as it sounds. Several different styles. Several different center caps. Also different trim rings. And then there's the reproduction stuff to. Whether "licensed" or not, there are subtle differences in the 'factory' ones v.s. the 'repro' ones. The ones in your auction have the police (often called 'flat') center caps. Likely your wheels have the derby caps. They're taller. Here's another auction, with fairly good pix. Rally Wheels with Derby caps The ones in this auction have the taller derby caps. Interestingly enough these appear to be in pretty good condtion. And he says they're recently blasted and painted. The bidding at the current level ($127.50) makes them a pretty good buy. Bill.

Here are the pictures of my rally wheels. I just dug this one out, washed it off and snapped the pictures. The rust is just surface and will come off easily. They are for a 15" tire, are 8" wide and where the center cap goes measures 7" across on the inside. There are some numbers on the rim that I wrote down, but I forgot them at home. I think there was a 5 to the left of the valve stem, and on the other side a 24 FW??? I'll double check when I get home tonight. Are these in fact the older generation "Corvette Rally Wheels"? Any idea of a fair price for them? I realize they need to be restored, but I'll leave that up to the buyer. Thanks. P.S. I had the pictures so they would show up directly in my post, but I wasn't sure if this was allowed, so I am just posting the links. Can anyone let me know for sure what is proper? http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee99/jandrinnd/Whitetail%202007/DSC01014.jpg http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee99/jandrinnd/Whitetail%202007/DSC01015.jpg

Hi Randy,
I'd say if the other wheels are in this condition and if the trim rings and center caps are in "good" condition (in other words they aren't dinged up, all the clips are on the trim rings, the caps 'click' onto the wheels) and they all look pretty decent they're worth around $200. Maybe a bit more. I can't seem to find my 'codes' for the various wheels at the moment. Presuming your wheels aren't something unusual also goes into my thoughts about the price.
One thing you definitely having going for you, is your buddy can get a complete set, all one size, all in one location by buying from you. Rather than him scrounging around swap meets buying one here, one there and so on.
Put it this way, if you were asking $200 at a local (for me) swap meet, I'd offer you $150 for them. And I'd probably buy them if you came down to $175. And I don't even need a set of rally wheels.
As for putting pictures in a post, as far as I know that is perfectly acceptable.
