I have an opportunity to buy two 36 1.5 ton trucks at what I think is a good price. Am I correct in assuming that the cab, hood, front fenders and grill are the same as the .5 ton? My son wants to build a truck but doesn't want a 1.5 ton. Also I have a 34 .5 ton. Can I use some of the parts like the headlights and engine parts?

The 1/2 and 1 1/2 cab and front sheet metal are the same. Note that there is an early high roof cab in 1936 (looks like a 1934) and a later low roof cab (looks like a 1937). Head lights fit 1934-36 trucks and 1933-35 Standard cars. There is almost nothing on a 1936 engine that is the same as a 1934....but the complete engines could be exchanged.

Thanks, that's the type of information I was looking for. They are both low cabs. I'm waiting to hear back about the engines. The one is together and the other is in parts. I would want to swap out the engine in my 34. I may be looking for a 1/2 ton frame. Now I just need to talk the wife into letting me get them.

I would tell the wife you are gonna get them anyhow. Then I would get busy setting up a bed in the shop.

The one thing that is different between the 1/2 ton and 1.5 ton is the welled fenders they are different; the 1.5 ton has a very shallow well because the tire does not touch the fender.
34 & 35 trucks are the greatest. 36 high cabs are OK too.

There is some discussion on another site about 36 1.5 VS 1/2 ton front fenders. Are there differences in fender size between the larger and the smaller truck?

The fenders are all the same ....except if they have wheel wells.

That's all I'm looking for, thank you again. I'm planning on using a set to patch my 34 fenders and someone told the guy selling them that the 1 1/2 ton fenders are bigger.

36 fenders are different than the 34-35 in two areas; where they attach to the front radiator shell valance ("Chin") and the the skirt behind the front tire.

Right, I'm thinking I can cut patch panels from the 36 to patch up the 34s. Areas like where they bolt to the running boards and parts near the frame should be the same. Right? 36 fenders seem to be easy to find where as the 34/35 fenders are like hens teeth. Maybe it would be easier to modify the 36 fenders to look like the 34/35.

Patch panels from those areas should be the same. Trying to make a 34-35 from a 36 fender would be very hard to do.

You will be lucky to find any guards that are useable in those areas. I had to make the patch pieces for my 38 as well as a large amount of the wheel arch, was not an easy project. Tony
1938 1/2 ton Hope to drive it before I retire
