I'd appreciate any help in identifying the radio from my 1940 Chevrolet. A plate on the outside has the number B40-15619. On the underside of the cover are two paper labels. One has only five patent numbers. The other one say "Superheterodyne Automobile Radio and lists umpteen patent numbers. The bottom of the label says Chevrolet Motor Company, and the number 41580 down in the left corner.

I'd also appreciate any advice on locating and replacing the knobs.

Hi,

Welcome aboard Joe. You have found one of the more popular Chevrolet sites. Nice bunch of folks here and we welcome you, ask your questions and we will make a stab at them.

That is a picture of the 1940 5-tube radio Model # 985538. It is the bottom of the line in quality, with Model 985536 being the best, Model #985537 next in line.

All of the parts to restore that radio are available from a central source. Restoration is also available from the same place.

The article on that radio was in the Feb 1985 G&D.

If interested, send me a PM or eMail.
