This is a question for AD truck lovers. Does anyone know what the last year was for cloth loom on the wiring harness on the 47.2-55.1 advance design trucks?

Thanks in advance.

The passenger cars switched to plastic covered wires in mid 1953. I have all the Service News and Service Bulletins for 1953 and can find no mention of the truck change. I would GUESS that 1954 is the first year for the plastic truck wires although it is not mentioned in the 1954 Truck Engineering Features.

Thanks Chev Nut! That's consistent with what I've been able to reserch so far. Chevs of the 40's makes mention of the fact that some '53's and all '54 and '55.1 had plastic or vinyl looms. Everything previous to that appears to be cloth.

I have both a 1/2 t and suburban, which both had, originally, plastic wrap (LOOM)over cloth covered wires. Rhode Island also supplies them that way for original replacements.

My 51 GMC suburban, also had the original harness the same way.

I just took four pics of the original wiring in my 1950, 3604. There was a combination of plastic tape wrap and woven looms. This should link ya to the page they are on:

Hope this helps add to your reference material Ken.
