Hi
I am relacing the distributor in my 28 chev. when I put it in I cant seem to get it to engage with the oil pump. Is there a trick to getting it back together?

Hi Ozmax, Let me see if I can help you here.

The distributor cam rotates a little bit when you seat the distributor. You have to take into account this movement when you line up the pin with the oil pump. I used a flathead screwdriver to turn the oil pump, so that it would be aligned once the distributor was seated.

You can try to align the oil pump tab with the position of the slot in the distributor as it rotates during insertion. Or you can drop the distributor into place and then rotate the engine until the tab and slot align and the distributor drops into position. Some times one method works better than the other. I have used both.
