Hello all you fellow Chevrolet lovers; I'm hoping that one or more of you can solve my problem; I installed a right side taillite on my 36 pickup and wired a crossover from the left side tail lite, now the problem; I just installed an aftermarket turnsignal kit and when I activate the left or right signal both taillites flash. As you probably already know I only have one post on the lite switch for the tail lites. Question; Do I need to install a diode in the wiring or replace the light switch to a different kind? I wired it exactly as the diagram instructed. Thanks in advance for your advise...Ol Gzr croc idea

You must cut the wire from the left to right tail-light. Extend the RIGHT wire to the directional switch. Depending on the type directional switch you have (5 or 7 wire)connect the wire and it will work individually.

Ol Gzr,
As I understand your explanation, when you added the tail light on the right side of the truck you simply connected the two wires to the left side wires.

You should have two connections in your tail lamps. One for the tail light circuit and one for the brake/ directional light. Visually the tail light will be the dimmer of the two choices.

In order for your directional light to work properly you will need to be sure your wires for the brake lights are extended to your directional light switch.

Your directional switch should have a wire from your brake light switch, and one from a power connection, (either from your ignition switch or battery). Don't forget to install a fuse. There will be two wires meant to feed your brake light filament, (the brighter one of the two in the tail light), they should be marked right and left. There may be two more used to power the front directional lights if you have them, (also marked right and left).

Please e-mail me if you need a clearer explanation.

Dan
