A fellow VCCA member who has no computer has a problem. He is attempting to obtain a title on a 1934 Chevrolet Master 1 1/2 ton truck. The trucknow has a low side bed on it but most likely came as a cab and chassis unit. The DMV here wants to value the truck at COST NEW. DMV does not have a cost guide for trucks. What he needs is the cost new, and if possible a copy of the page of the document from which the new cost came. If some one has this information and could E-Mail me a copy with the cost new price it would be appreciated.

I would think your DMV folks are "out to lunch" all day. What they need is "true market value" right? Did he bring the truck into the state from another US state? I would check the Manheim Gold site. there used to be a link on the VCCA.org site, and print out their projected value according to actual condition of a 1934 1/2 ton or whatever they have. Try getting something in print, those guys often accept any "official" documents you can provide. I would say for a 1 1/2 ton truck ad in 1934, look in a archived major city newspaper ads from 1934.
Or to get the right on the money skinny, ask Gene.
BTW Manheim Gold only showed values for cars.

Well, that is a bad situation to be in. Maybe he should try to get a title in another state and then transfer it to your state. That sounds odd that they can tell you not to assemble a truck without having a title. I got a rebuilders title here in Texas, it e intailed filling out a few forms and taking some pictures, but that was several years ago. Do you have an antique advocy group in your state, that lobbies the state lawmakers for the old hobby cause?

That happened to me about a month ago when I was reregistering my 31 coupe. It was in non op for many years and when I went in about a month ago one of the things that they needed was the original cost new. I told them $675, but I did not have to show them any proof of the price. Hope your friend can get it done. Good luck.
