Can any one tell me:
What type of switch {style} the GM Passing {Driving} light used ?
Where the switch was mounted ?
How the light was wired ?

As always thanks for your help,

Mike,
Maybe it's a regional difference in terminology, but I have no idea what you're refering to.

You don't mean the fog lights, do you?

The 1940 / 1941 Chevrolets with a Passing Light used a toggle switch similar to the Heat and Def switches that you probably already have installed. The toggle switch was the same color - light brown body with an ivory toggle switch. The switch is marked AUX.

Thanks David, as always your full of info.

Now, I need to find another switch, y two are being used for Fog Lt., Back Up Light. {Have one ?}

Bowtie Bob, as the story goes, in the 40's, {maybe earlier} GM made two adl lights, A Driving Light & A PAssing Light. They were big, maybe 8.5 in. dia. and mounted to the Front Bumper Bracket, like the fog lights do.

I hear they were used on dark roads & or switched on when a car was passing another car.

Any one care to chime in here and correct this view, please do so. I know Ray knows for sure. You can see & read more of his 1941 Accessory articles in G&D over the past several months...

Enjoy the ride,
Michael41

Mike,
Gene PM'd me with a pic of the Accessory manual showing the passing light. I'm amazed that I never heard of it before. As I told Gene, I gotta get out more and take note of the features on the later cars. blush

Nice to have Gene around...

In the West Bob, aka, in the land of "Many Chevy's from the 30's & 40's" Passing & Driving Lights abound.

You might find this curious, at the swap meets, sales {incl. ebay} the prices range from about 300. for an old junky light, to $800.+++ for a nice light. Yikes!

In 41 they cost $9.95 at the Chevy dealer, now that's inflation, a sellers market, or supply & demand ?? Had gene known he might have purchaed 100 of them and be rich today....

Enjoy the ride,

Hi Mike,

It is correct what others have posted here regarding your inquire. I have both the lamp and correct switch mounted in my 41 coupe. If you care to see a picture there is one posted of my Black coupe on Paul's 41 site.
Love those 41s........

Mike.....

Hello Michael:

Do you need both a back-up light switch and a fog lamp switch for your 1941 ?
