I have a slight problem, I've put a 1938 216 engine in a 1929 frame my problem is the drive shaft is about three inches short. What rear end would work or what advice can anyone give me. I also have two 1929 engines and transmissions that are taking up space in my garage they have to be rebuilt.I will also put this in the for sale listing with my phone #

I have never tried the switch. Just measured '31, '34, '37 transmissions. The '31 case is 10 1/2" from front mount arms to back u-joint housing. The '37 is 9 1/2" and the '34 is 12". So my conclusion is you need to use a '32 to '36 transmission. Or you can lengthen the drive shaft and torque tube. Or find a rear end with a longer torque tube. I have not checked that option yet.

How about adding the 32 or 33 freewheeling extension?

I don't have a '32 or '33 here to measure but suspect that it would make the whole transmission assembly too long. That would make the drive shaft too long. I can calculate the difference. The 1932 passenger propeller shaft is: 39 1/32" long and the 1932-33 1/2 ton is: 43 29/32" long. Since the difference is the freewheeling unit not installed on the 1/2 ton that would make the freewheeling unit 4 7/8" long.

How about using a '31 rear end, torque tube and propshaft? I know it is longer than the '29, and 30 tube by a couple of inches. Dan
