Not a job for an owner/operator.

Use a cold chisel to break the gear that is on the flywheel and remove.

Now we need some very accurate measurement. The diameter of the flywheel at the bottom of the wheel where the other gear was mounted. The correct diameter measured on the INSIDE of the new ringgear. Assuming the new ringgear is slightly smaller we are ready to install the gear. Mark the spot on the flywheel that was TDC. Insure the new ring has the same mark. Remember these two spots when assembling.

Place the flywheel in a freezer. Place the new gear in a pizza oven. When both items have achieved the hottest and coldest, place the ring on the flywheel. A large brass hammer, leather welding gloves, and a set of tongs will ensure a complete job.

If you can find a suckXX, the extra help will prove to be very helpful in the new assembly.

floridaboy--follow Ray`s advise and you will get the job done. I`ve replaced several ring gears on Chevies and F--ds doing it exactly like Ray explained with 100% success.
